A Dry Forest Journey

immersive experience connecting locals to dry forest environment & wili wili trees

architectural plan view presented tunnel-book style inspired by Hawai’i study experience (Art & Science with Conservation) with Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)

Storytelling, Hand Illustration, Model Making, Revit

Project Duration: 2 Weeks, Jan-Feb 2023

Guests (locals, their families, and friends) attending the WiliWili Festival on Hawaii’s Big Island enter a building integrated within the environment, and walk through a series of three rooms, where they have the opportunity to connect with the trees and the dry forest ecosystem.

Guest Experience

Process: Plan View, Illustration

In the first room, guests sit under a large wiliwili tree, an environment that is cool in temperature, but warm in space. The second is a long hallway recreating the dry forest ecosystem from the past; a round window looking outside is at the end of the hallway, emphasizing the contrast and impact of invasive species. The last is a greenhouse, where guests participate in community projects (seed collection, baby tree care) to further connect with the threatened species.
